This day, that year… cheers and high spirits of Londoners stroked the golden hour when in 1859,  The Big Ben clock tower in London goes into operation, chiming for the first time.

The Houses of Parliament’s iconic clock tower is one of London’s most famous landmarks. One is not to leave London without visiting Big Ben! it’s  official name is  The Great Westminster Clock!

One can take a tour of the Houses of Parliament.

The Elizabeth Tower is not open to the general public although UK residents can arrange a visit by writing to their MP
It is not possible for overseas visitors to tour the clock tower.
